Our ability to minimize the spread of viruses or bacteria will contribute to greater biosecurity and successful emergency response management.
Everyone is at risk when another influenza pandemic occurs. Influenza experts agree no one can accurately predict when, where, and which age groups will be affected.
The degree of any influenza pandemic occurrence will determine the impact to what we know as our normal work and leisure activities.
One certainty essential to preparing for such occurrences is to have proper personal protection equipment (PPE).
Safety conscious employers are taking the responsibility to provide employees with the proper PPE.
Individuals must also recognize the responsibility for themselves as well as other family members.
Professions with greater risk include healthcare workers, law enforcement agencies, emergency responders, correctional personnel, as well as any professions with higher number of employees.
The goal of our PERK kit is to minimize the spread of viruses and bacteria associated with any influenza, emergency response or biohazard exposure.
Everyone needs to have quick access to the assortment of PPE offerings endorsed by WHO (World Health Organization) and included in our PERK kit.

The World Health Organization (WHO) endorses the following recommendations:
- Particulate respirators that are at least as protective as NIOSH-certified N95, EU FFP2, oe equivalent.
- Appropriate procedures should be used to select a particulate respirator that fits well and a user seal check should be performed each time a disposable particulate respirator is worn.
- Eye protection (face shield, visor, or goggles) if sprays/splashes of secretions are anticipated and for all aerosol generating procedures. When providing care, in close contact with a patient with respiratory symptoms (e.g. coughing/wheezing), sprays of secretions may occur and eye protection should be used.
- Clean, non-sterile ambidextrous gloves, which should cover the cuffs of the gown.
- Clean, non-sterile long-sleeved gowns (fluid resistant, if available).
- If cloth gowns are used, a waterproof apron should also be used if splashing of blood, excretions, secretions is anticipated.
- Hand hygiene is an important component of infection control precautions.
