Top 10 Most Popular Oil and Gas Gloves, Glasses, and Garments

MCR Safety has been a leader in the personal protective equipment industry for over 45 years. Since we manufacture the majority of our own safety products, we know what materials provide effective safety barriers for those working in the oil and gas industry.

Below, we share the Top 10 products that virtually every oil and gas worker should know about. (These products are grouped by category, not effectiveness.) Chances are, you are familiar with most, if not all, of the below products.

And, if you’re new to the industry, there might be a product on this list that you’re not familiar with yet. After we share the Top 10 with you, we would also like to tell you about some PPE products that we believe might one day be a Top 10 Oil and Gas product!

Oil and Gas Safety Statistics

According to the National Safety Council, a workplace injury occurs every 7 seconds: 510 per hour, 12,300 per day, and 4,500,000 per year. When you examine the Oil and Gas industry, the numbers tell an interesting story…

In 2016, the BLS reported 3.2 recordable cases per 100 employees across all US industries. You might think, well Oil and Gas workers are safer, with injuries well below the average… Well, this is more of a testament to the importance placed on safety across this industry and the excellent work performed by countless Oil and Gas safety professionals.

As mentioned, the numbers tell an interesting story. The one story not told by the low recordable case number is that when an injury does occur, it many times is fatal. From 2003-2013, there were 1,189 fatalities, a drastic increase over other industries. So, yes, Oil and Gas recordable injuries come in below the average. However, when they do occur, there is a greater chance it’s fatal!

Gloves (Products 1-5)

In 2015, hand injuries at work were second only to back injuries. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics for that year, workers sustained more than 143,000 injuries to their hands. A report in Occupational Health and Safety magazine reminds us that in the oil and gas industry, 50% of workplace injuries are to hands, but that number may be as high as 80%.”

Our garments line has expanded in recent years, as we’ve continued providing our customers options for what they need to protect themselves while at work. Our high-visibility garments enable you to be seen easily. Our rainwear is perfect when the weather is poor, but you have to be out in it. Our flame-resistant gear protects individuals working in industries where fire is a known or likely hazard.
