Common Work Glove Questions

By listening to customers over the years, it has helped us gain keen insight into the needs of those needing work gloves.  Here are twelve of the top questions we commonly hear from customers:

• Do cut-resistant gloves work? 
  
  Yes, these gloves are intended to resist sharp objects that would typically cause immediate injury.  There are different ANSI cut-levels, with the higher scores offering the best protection.  We've built an entire cut-resistant work glove page to help you find the best glove.  Keep in mind; no glove is cut-proof!

• Which type of glove should you wear when working with a chemical of unknown toxicity?
  
  The National Center for Biotechnology says never to underestimate hazards, especially working with chemicals.   We agree! When working with chemicals, it's vital to wear gloves made from a material known to offer permeation resistance against the elements in use.  MCR Safety provides a chemical permeation database for it's chemical-resistant gloves. When it unclear which chemicals are used, a person should also go back to the MSDS of the product handled to verify chemical compatibility with specific gloves.. Another excellent resource would OSHA's chemical chart for gloves on their PPE document.  Lastly, the NCBI provides additional hand protection guidance when working with chemicals.  Also, consider additional guidance offered by Princeton University. 

• Do anti vibration gloves work?
  
  MCR Safety sells a padded palm in numerous work glove styles. Keep in mind, even though many are D30® Palm Padded, offering excellent resistance to impact in the palm, none of our work gloves are third-party tested to meet the testing conditions of ISO 10819 // ANSI S2.73.  This test is known as the global standard for anti-vibration gloves. Anyone requiring an anti-vibration glove should seek gloves certified to that standard.

• How to clean leather work gloves?

• What type of glove should not be worn when working with formaldehyde?
  
  As mentioned above, we always recommend visiting our chemical permeation database first to decide which gloves should be worn when working around chemicals.  Also, we've added a blog on formaldehyde too. 

• Where can I buy cotton white work gloves with red stiching with red cuffs?

• What are the warmest work gloves in the market?
  
  We would never claim to have the warmest glove.   However, we will tout our glove made with 200 gram Thinsulate™.  Check out our blog on the warmest winter gloves. 

• Which nitrile gloves work with my phone?

• How can I protect my hands from germs when I wear work gloves?
  
  The World Health Organization informs everyone that the effectiveness of gloves in preventing contamination of workers' hands and reducing the transmission of pathogens in health care has been confirmed in several clinical studies. However, they also mention that gloves do not provide complete protection against hand contamination.  Choose a disposable glove with the fewest pinholes, which will be labeled as Medical Grade.  Also, be mindful that there is a correct way to don and doff disposable gloves, which can be found in our PPE article.

• What are the best water proof gloves for working at a car wash?

• What thickness gloves for automotive work?

• What kind of work gloves do tile layers need?
