Work gloves are a form of personal protective equipment (PPE) that either partially or entirely covers the hands and possibly the arms. They provide essential protection for countless industries, as they protect wearers from cuts, blisters, chemicals, and much more. Work gloves also enhance the wearer’s performance, such as grip, and help ensure sanitary conditions.
Work gloves serve various purposes depending on the industry, job description, and work environment. Here are the primary hazards against which work gloves are worn to protect individuals:
Heavy Duty puncture-resistant ANSI 5 gloves provide the highest level of protection.
There are many gloves available today to protect workers from the above hazards. The best way to select suitable gloves for the hazards you face is to follow industry safety standards and employer guidelines for task performance. It makes sense to choose heavy-duty protection in most hazardous environments to ensure you're safe from potential hazards. Examples of heavy-duty gloves include those used for construction, chemical gloves, cleaning gloves, dishwashing gloves, gardening gloves, grilling gloves, and sandblasting gloves.
This article will highlight the top-selling heavy-duty gloves MCR Safety offers across multiple glove categories. We hope that by the time you’ve finished reading this article, you will have located at least one glove that will work to protect you from the list of hazards identified above. Let's get you up to speed on which durable gloves you should consider wearing.
Heavy-Duty Overview
Work gloves are constructed from various materials that can make the glove lightweight, heavy-duty, or possibly both, depending on the technology used. So, what is heavy-duty glove construction? Heavy-duty glove styles will often feature one or more of the following characteristics:
Our different glove sections below outline these characteristics, and we note which specific styles MCR Safety offers within each section.
Many workers face demanding jobs that quickly wear out most standard work gloves. Heavy-duty leather gloves offer longer-lasting protection, and the thick leather holds up to even the most challenging workdays. Here are two of our favorite heavy-duty leather styles:
The PD5931 Sasquatch® glove provides the highest level ANSI impact- and abrasion-resistant protection possible! Plus, it is cut-resistant, too!
All of our leather gloves can be found here.
Rubber
MCR Safety offers various rubber glove options made from liquid latex. These gloves are especially useful in household and industrial settings, such as pool maintenance or food preparation. Here are two different heavy-duty styles found in two different product groups.
Disposable
5049 disposable latex gloves are 11 millimeters thick, two times the thickness of our top-selling 5055 gloves that come in at 5 millimeters. The 5049 is also 12 inches long, providing the user with an additional 2.5 inches in length. Users tend to opt for a heavy-duty disposable glove to ensure they still have some flexibility when handling objects.
You can find more information on latex gloves by visiting our Rubber Gloves article. Or, if you're ready to start filtering all latex gloves, we have a designated latex rubber page found here.

Extra Thick Rubber
Do you need a thicker rubber glove? The unlined 5500 series boasts a 50-millimeter thickness that provides an excellent solution for the food industry. These are considered a canner's glove, and they have a raised Z pattern to provide additional gripping power and strength. If 50 mil is too thick, consider looking at the 5110, which is only 18 millimeters thick.
Butyl rubber gloves are considered by many to be the most heavy-duty chemical glove available for general industrial applications. The solution-dipping process means that these gloves have a tight molecular structure that creates chemical impermeability. Because of these characteristics, butyl gloves have heavy-duty permeation resistance to most acids, aldehydes, alcohols, amides, bases, esters, and ketones.
MCR Safety's complete lineup of butyl gloves.
Our CP25 series provides users with the most heavy-duty form of protection, offering an additional 10 millimeters of butyl compared to the CP1532.
All of our butyl gloves can be found here.
A neoprene polymer resists degradation better than most polymers, and it is considered the best chemical glove to balance cost and performance. Below are three heavy-duty styles showcased by the number of neoprene dips used.
Multi-Dip
The 6932 model gives the wearer protection in countless situations! These gloves are 12 inches long and are dipped multiple times with rugged black neoprene. This multiple-dip allows the glove to achieve an ANSI contact heat level 5 score and an EN 437 Permeation A chemical rating.
Double-Dip
Our 6962 features two layers of rugged neoprene, providing wearers with one of our best chemical-resistant glove options. It is double-dipped, black over blue, providing users with a built-in wear indicator for replacing the gloves! Its sandy textured finish is also ideal for environments that involve abrasive objects.
The 6944 neoprene Black Jack glove is foam-lined for insulation, making it comfortable to wear. The foam lining also provides users with an ANSI contact heat rating of Level 5, ensuring protection for applications up to 608°F.

Nitrile gloves offer a one-two punch by providing both abrasion and puncture protection. Most nitrile styles will offer users three times better puncture-resistant properties compared to a latex polymer. It is also the go-to polymer glove when oil is involved, as the grip outperforms all other polymers.
MCR Safety offers several different nitrile style options, including unlined and lined. We’ve identified the heavy-duty style found in both.
Unlined
The 5350 unlined nitrile glove is 22 millimeters thick and offers wearers an extra-long 18-inch cuff. This waterproof glove is also the thickest unlined nitrile glove in our lineup and is considered our best heavy-duty dishwashing glove.
Lined
MG9756 offers a MicroFinish nitrile coating on a 13 gauge seamless cotton-polyester shell. These gloves offer a firm grip for dry, wet, and oily conditions alike. The grip is achieved because the material reacts to objects in the environment as if you are wearing tiny suction cups. The seamless cotton-polyester liner makes these gloves extra comfortable.
Extra-Long Lined
An extra-long cuff is a solution to jobs requiring protection up to your whole arm, including your hands. Our MG9796 PredaFlex nitrile work gloves are shoulder-length, providing the most coverage possible. For those who want the arms fully covered while dishwashing, this is your solution!

Some tough jobs require extra gripping power and abrasion protection. MCR Safety offers one of the best gloves for these specialized performance needs.
Our 962 safety mechanics gloves feature a unique steel cable/rope channel reinforced with DuPont™ Kevlar®. It’s the perfect palm for grabbing abrasive objects, such as steel cables and rope. The reinforced thumb crotch also means that even the most high-stress areas are durable and protected.
Touchscreen gloves provide an essential feature: the ability to protect your hands while still allowing you to use a touchscreen. The 92735N offers excellent cut protection, but at the same time, the wearer can operate a touchscreen while wearing them! This model scores at the top of the chart when it comes to ANSI standards — it has an A9 cut-resistant score thanks to the Hypermax™ steel shell.

Welding demands high-quality PPE due to the strenuous working conditions involved. The 4750, shown above, features a premium cow leather hide and a double wool palm lining. This combination provides excellent heat protection up to 500°F.
MCR Safety offers several options with an inner wool lining.

Some workers spend a lot of time in cold environments, including outdoor worksites and refrigerated indoor spaces. Here are three of the most heavy-duty thermal styles in our product lineup.
