MCR Safety is committed to protecting people and to protecting the planet. And, our product assortment focused on the environment proves it.
We classify PPE as being eco-friendly if any one of these three areas is met:
We break these out into specific groups to ensure you know how your purchase is favorably impacting our planet. The last thing we want is to be labeled a “greenwasher” company by the FTC or by those seeking to help preserve the planet’s resources. Also, we want to hold ourselves accountable for the claims we make and continue improving our entire eco-friendly product lineup. It helps us clearly identify what part of our PPE is green and it helps us improve on future eco-friendly designs we introduce.
Below is a breakdown of each of the eco-friendly groups we have identified for our “eco-friendly” label.
MCR Safety offers a variety of PPE products that are made with eco-friendly materials. To be considered an eco-friendly product, a facet of the actual product must be green, such as the liner, material used, or the coating.
Here are some examples:
Now available in a 4 mil nitrile option and a 8 mil nitrile option, both have been tested to ASTM test methods, with additional information found here. Biodegradable gloves are one of the best eco-friendly products you can wear since disposable gloves are thrown away so often. By choosing to wear biodegradable gloves, you will help lessen the pressure on landfills tasked with taking in tons of used PPE.
Our safety vests are made from 9-10 recycled water bottles each and incorporate recycled polyester mesh material. By recycling plastic and synthetic products, we’re turning older materials into something new!
RXCL2ML and RXCL2MO are made from recycled materials.
Using natural materials like cotton lessens our reliance on chemical plastics. Products derived from materials found in nature allows them to degrade at 76% after 243 days and continue the degradation process over time. Compare that to the decades or centuries it takes some synthetics to decompose, if they ever do! All our cotton canvas and uncoated stringed gloves can be found here, along with some educational content.
We don’t classify our coated cotton gloves as eco-friendly, as the coating is not biodegradable.
An eco-friendly yarn made from 1/3 renewable ingredients.
Packaging includes the inner hang tag, inner bag, and outer carton. It's a major component of environmental waste and pollution, which is why it is broken up into its own category.
We produce our Ninja® range of premium safety gloves to help protect the hands of workers around the world. But we’re also stepping up to do our part in helping to protect the world itself. By replacing virgin paper with recycled paper wherever we can, and reducing the thicknesses of our shipping and packaging materials, we’re helping to reduce our carbon footprint and waste impact on the world.
We recognize that being a manufacturer comes with a big responsibility, as we engage in activities that consume many resources. With that in mind, we’ve been redesigning and streamlining our manufacturing processes for years now across our product lines.
Here are the products that involve eco-friendly manufacturing processes:
MCR Safety uses directly-owned manufacturing facilities to make our cotton gloves. These facilities utilize recycled cotton from the fashion industry, decreasing the total energy and water consumption that is required during the textile production process. You can identify these products by seeking cotton-stringed part numbers that end in an M.
Production of Ingenia™ requires 30% less energy than nylon and minimizes greenhouse emissions by as much as 60% of CO2 compared to the production of nylon.
These products are made in facilities that release less gas emissions and use electricity produced via solar and wind energy.
UV protection and anti-fog technologies require the use of chemical applications to the lenses. However, our manufacturing process for these glasses requires 87% less energy to produce compared to our first-generation anti-fog safety glasses. New technology also means that our UV-AF styles require fewer chemicals, and produce fewer CO2 emissions.
