While the major holiday season may have concluded, gift-giving is a year-long activity! If you are planning to purchase a gift for an electrician, whether for Christmas, Father’s Day, Mother’s Day, a birthday, or any other special occasion, you have many options! Across MCR Safety’s product line of personal protective equipment (PPE), there are numerous products geared toward the needs of electricians. As we highlight on our Electricians education page, we stock thin gloves for pulling wire, long sleeve FR shirts for UV protection, hi-vis safety clothing for staying seen, and much more.
Every electrician needs PPE, which makes it the perfect gift!
Electrical equipment can easily ignite and become the source of hazardous flame conditions. For this reason, flame-resistant (FR) clothing must be worn at all times. Non-FR clothing can easily ignite and provide an additional fuel source, increasing burn injuries. At MCR Safety, we have some exciting new FR products that electricians all over the country are wearing.
MCR Safety has you covered if you are looking for some electrician gift ideas. Our Christmas gifts guide article also touches on much of what we highlight below. However, many items are new and required explicitly by electricians. So, get ready; we’re about to highlight safety gifts electricians will appreciate receiving. With these products, you’ll be well on your way to wrapping up the best gift for their special day!
As the saying goes, “It’s better to give than to receive.” And what better gift is there to give than something that protects the person receiving it? Electricians truly value the need for PPE. In fact, at the 2018 NECA convention, over 40% of the 10,000 attendees noted in a survey that they wanted to learn more about safety equipment and apparel. Once we became aware of this need, we created our Electrician education page. Here are some of the hazards and safety equipment covered on that page:
Electricians understand that risks come with the job, so they want to be wearing the best PPE to keep them safe. Let’s highlight some of the fabulous products we offer to protect electricians.
One of the coolest products we manufacture is our triple-vented, flame-resistant (FR) work shirt. And, when we say cool, we literally mean that, as our triple-vented styles are designed to breathe easily. Mesh vent openings, both on the back and under the arms, minimize the heat stress of electricians working outside or in hot buildings by maximizing the human body’s mechanism of regulating heat stress through evaporative cooling and convection. The image below highlights the technology around these shirts.
Both welders and electricians benefit from Patented Summit Breeze® Triple-Vent Technology, which features three total vents and is flame-resistant.
Not only do our FR shirts breathe, but we make one of the lightest-weight options available on the market today. At only 5.5 ounces, electricians will experience all-day comfort wearing triple-vented FR shirts with Summit Breeze® technology. Below is an image highlighting all the FR shirts we now stock, including a hi-vis option. The long-sleeve Class 3 SBS1027 shirt has been warmly received by those who need to be seen on dangerous work sites
Breathable, Durable, and Lightweight FR Shirts
All of our triple-vented clothing styles are designed with safety at the forefront. ASTM F1930 mannequin testing reveals that our Summit Breeze® 5.5 ounce inherent blend work shirts provide a body burn percentage of less than 5% when tested in conjunction with our P2D FR jeans!
Summit Breeze® work shirts are comfortable and long-lasting. They are made with rip-stop double-stitched material for increased durability and rugged wear and tear. We challenge you to find another shirt on the market that combines comfort, safety, and long-lasting wear as seamlessly as our Summit Breeze® work shirts!
Available in sizes small through 4X, FR work shirts make an excellent gift for any electrician. For immediate expediting of product, you’ll find all the shirts on our Buy & Try Safety Store, or we can have one of our nationwide industrial partners provide quick turnarounds on all the shirts shown above.
Our FR product lineup goes well beyond shirts. We encourage you to check out our entire FR online catalog, as we stock a wide range of items any electrician will need at some point. Shop for FR balaclavas, FR jackets, FR hi-vis garments, FR jeans, FR pants, and much more.
Long-sleeve FR shirts are a popular workwear choice.
Our FR work pants come equipped with tons of pockets.
Jeans are still the preferred clothing option for many. Try out our stretchable, lightweight jeans designed for all-day comfort.
We stock FR hi-vis vests, shirts, jackets, and coats.
Try It Out!
Sometimes fire and heat hazards aren’t the only dangers on the job. Hi-vis FR safety clothing keeps workers safe in environments with poor visibility or high volumes of traffic, including other workers and vehicles. Because they face thermal hazard exposures, many electricians feel safest in flame-resistant clothing or vests but want to be visible at the same time. That’s where hi-vis FR options fit the bill.
Tremendous hand dexterity is required when splicing and pulling wire, placing conduit, wiring electrical boxes, or working around metal junction boxes. Our 18-gauge featherweight gloves are an excellent choice for wiring.
Two of our favorite electrician gloves
Now we’ll break down your glove options into both general-purpose and cut-resistant styles. The styles shown above are two of our most popular.
The N96970 glove is part of MCR’s Safety Ninja line, which is engineered to provide the highest level of innovation. These gloves feature a unique shell and polymer combination that provides excellent dexterity, comfort, and protection. With an 18-gauge red nylon and spandex shell, the wearer does not sacrifice their sense of touch while wearing them. The gloves are coated in breathable nitrile foam that provides an excellent grip in wet and dry conditions. Treated with Actifresh to prevent odor and bacteria build-up, these are a great pair of gloves for an electrician!
N9696
A similar glove is available in blue! The N9696 is 30% lighter than other PU gloves, offering electricians extreme sense of touch. It’s a gift any electrician will genuinely appreciate receiving, as they will experience easier handling of objects and all-day comfort.
If the electrician you’re buying for requires a little more advanced protection, we have you covered. MCR Safety Cut Pro gloves are an excellent option for those who need protection from cut hazards. The 9828PU features a seamless 18-gauge green ARX aramid shell and durable gray PU-coated palm and fingertips. With these gloves, you don’t sacrifice dexterity or a sense of touch for the protection they offer. The image below illustrates the wide range of glove options that fall under our featherweight cut-resistant glove lineup. You only have to decide how much cut-protection performance is required and select the appropriate coating. Nitrile performs better around oil and has a little longer longevity than PU. However, PU coatings provide an excellent sense of touch.
These featherweight styles all feature a cut-resistant shell.
MU3664
Many electricians prefer a nice pair of leather work gloves. We get it; very few gloves are durable and offer abrasion and heat resistance the way leather does. That is why we now stock the leather glove electricians, and utility linemen prefer wearing. The MUG3664 is the softest leather glove we stock, and it is designed to last due to all its reinforcements! Plus, its lightweight design is soft and supple, ideal for electricians who use their hands all day. MU3664K is our cut-resistant lined option.
Vision protection is vital for workers across numerous industries! This is 100% the case for the electrical trade, as eye injuries can occur at almost any time. There are concerns from ARC blasts, flying debris from using tools, and UV light when working outside.
Safety glasses are a fascinating part of a worker’s PPE wardrobe, as they are the one product almost everyone will notice a worker wearing. And, like most people, electricians want to look good in what they’re wearing. We offer safety glasses with clear, colored, or polarized lenses. Polarized lenses reduce the amount of reflected light that an electrician encounters on the job. In bright environments, polarized styles assist workers with reducing glare and offer sun protection.
We stock a wide range of different polarized styles in our lineup.
SR522ZPF is polarized and helps block sawdust, and other debris electricians often encounter.
Check out that polarized magnifier!
Master electricians have many years of experience. However, eyesight begins to weaken as one ages, becoming problematic for electricians looking at the small print and colored wires. Don’t worry; we now stock a polarized magnifier, shown above.
You can find all our polarized safety glasses by visiting our dedicated online catalog for this product. You will find most of our polarized safety glasses stocked by the leading nationwide distributors you do business with every day. And, as mentioned earlier, you can expedite all products by visiting our Buy & Try Safety Store.
